A new era... Brimingham 0 -2 Chelsea (Fa Cup 5th Round Replay)

With Di Matteo in as caretaker manager, Chelsea saw a return to winning ways during this crucial 12 day period we find ourselves in, having dropped 3 points behind fourth place in the league courtesy of the all important loss against WBA, and the loss of a manager, a win was very much needed to begin the healing process on the field, and begin the healing process in what appears to be a tense dressing room. After what was an even first half, Chelsea manage to go through the gears early on in the second half and were playing some decent football with the ball on the ground, a scrappy first goal was poked in by Mata, and this was followed up by some lovely one touch passing which saw Miereles fire a thunderbolt into the back of the net and a nail into Brimingham's coffin. The game ended 2-0 and I believe that the win was way more important than the performance in this match, but it must be noted that Mata did have a penalty saved which did turn the Brimingham crowd and led to a much more tricky end to the game than it should have been. Sturridge also squandered a beautiful chance set up by a top class Torres cross, who had missed a sitter in the first half. Torres's confidence in front of goal is clearly shot, but his chasing and tracking back, and indeed assits are proving to be more than Drogba can currently offer up to the team.In regards to the defence, Cahill is really beginning to look like a solid signing especially with Terry out injured and he made a perfectly timed challenge in the second half, Ivanovic looked classy and in my opinion has the ability to one day follow in Terry's steps and be Chelsea's captain, I believe his defence ability and attitude will serve him very well. There were still frailties at the back , near the end of the game  the defence was very much split by a superb ball and Chelsea were lucky the game didn't go 2-1. The next game sees the boys return to the Bridge in what will be Di Matteo's first game in charge at home, hopefully Chelsea can build on this result and begin and end of season charge for silverware
