Chelsea vs Benfica...can the old guard keep marching on?

So after what was a very tepid lunchtime derby on Saturday afternoon with Tottenham in some glorious sunshine, we turn our sights to the foreign lands of Lisbon, and what looks like the only real route for Chelsea into next years Champions League. However both routes seem like Everest to climb at the moment, overhaul a five point lead in the Premiership, or defeat most likely Benfica, Barcelona and Real Madrid...simples, but hey this is the reason why we love football. Chelsea's defence has certainly improved under Di Matteo and that showed against Man City and Tottenham, although neither result went our way, I didn't feel we lost and drew the respective games because of sloppy mistakes made by our defence or lack of it should I say, seen during AVB's tenure. On Saturday we showed a distinct lack of ideas in the final third, and unfortunately for Chelsea, Drogba had one of his days where he doesn't bother to turn up, in fact his performance was on the otherside of the spectrum to his performance against Napoli, where he worked hard all game and got his crucial goal. Fingers crossed, Chelsea can go to the relatively newly built Stadio de Luz tomorrow night and put in another solid defensive display and at worst come away with a one goal deficit and an away goal. Good news for the team sheet is that Ivanovic was spotted on the coach to the airport, so fingers crossed we will see his efforts at right back tomorrow night. Mata has had a few quite games since the departure of AVB, hopefully tomorrow night we may see him tuck in behind Nando (if he starts again away from home) and play a bit more of a focal role.

Head Prediction Benfica 2-1 Chelsea

Heart Prediction Benfica 0-1 Chelsea

Time to go find the passport and sunglasses, I've got a flight to catch , Olá Lisbao

Come on the Chels over land and sea!
